  • Land
  • Address 00 Shep Road

The town of Springfield, ME which is located in northern Penobscot county boasts a population of approximately 409 citizens.  Springfield is an old farming community and the signs of old homesteads can often be found in the forests that have reclaimed many of the once cleared farm fields.  The forests around Springfield and the surrounding communities are working forests producing timber for area woods products manufacturers.  The young regrowth from this harvesting provides excellent habitat for whitetail deer, moose, hares and grouse. Recreational Data Outdoor pursuits are readily enjoyed by the inhabitants of the area.  Hunting, fishing, hiking, boating, atv riding and snowsledding are all very popular.  The logging roads throughout the area provide a base for an extensive ATV trail system in the spring, summer and fall.  In the winter many of these same trails become groomed snowmobile highways. The nearby Grand Lake chain of lakes in Lakeville, as well as the streams that feed these waters, provide numerous angling opportunities year-round.    The cold clear waters of this area provide excellent habitat for salmon, brook trout and lake trout.  Spaulding Brook and Lombard Lake provide fishing opportunities right from the property for white perch and brook trout.  Property Overview Timberdoodle Preserve is a 168.5+- acre parcel of improved upland bird habitat.  The property had a selective timber harvest done to enhance woodcock breeding and nesting ground.  Several wildlife clearings were made throughout the property and allowed to regenerate into young hardwood, and there is a large clearing where the mating dance of woodcock can be observed during the spring mating season.  The boundary roads are designated ATV/snowmobile trails so those recreational pursuits can be had right from the property.   Timberdoodle Preserve is an outstanding opportunity to own an upland bird and whitetail hunting property at a great price.  Call today to set up a personal viewing of this outstanding recreational property.  Water and Land Features There is nearly a mile of roads along and through the parcel, giving access to the interior of the acreage.  Bog Brook runs along the boundary at one point providing brook trout fishing opportunities from the property.  The land has old apple trees scattered throughout its forested acres and the mix of young hardwood as well as mature old growth along the stream, provide the varied forest types preferred by all of Maine’s wildlife.

This “house of light” as the owner calls it, offers panoramic views of Little Bay and enjoys a right of way to it along the Cottage Lane. Outside, the lot is dotted with a few perennial gardens, small deck facing the water and has recently had new insulated skirting around the base. You truly can’t get there from here without leaving town and driving thru East Machias and around to Machiasport village where the town office, post office and fire department are located. On this side of the river you will find Machiasport village, the settlements of Larrabee, Starboard and Bucks Harbor – each with their own history but very much a part of Machiasport. Known as the Sunrise County, Washington County welcomes the first rays of sun to shine on the US each day. With tides averaging between 18-22’; the bold, salt-sprayed shoreline of Downeast Maine offers deserted beaches, quiet hiking trails, rugged cliffs and unnamed beauty. Truly, one of the last frontiers on the Eastern seaboard, one doesn’t have to go far to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. With 2 cities, 44 towns and a population of approximately 32,000. Washington County is larger than the states of Delaware and Rhode Island combined and offers access to thousands of acres of public preserved lands. A great place to explore for a season or a lifetime!

A mint condition 48 x 75-foot barn with 14-foot door will store your tractor, boats, atv’s and vehicles.  The current owners have a basketball hoop inside the barn so the kids can still get exercise on the rainy days of spring.  The barn has a full concrete floor. If you like to fish, jump on your atv and ride down to the Passadumkeag River, which is less than a mile from this property.  The river offers a nice paddle for those who like to canoe or kayak.  Upriver you will find native cranberry bogs and Cold Stream flows into the river, a good spot to catch a native brook trout.  Down river, in just over 2 miles, you will find the confluence of the Penobscot River, known for some of the best small mouth bass fishing in New England. For the hunting enthusiast, the current owner had a consultant with the Whitetail Institute visit the property and make recommendations for food plots.  You will find various food plots throughout the property.  Deer, bear and turkey have all been successfully harvested from this property.  It is truly a sportsman’s dream property. Entering the home, you come into the back den with propane fireplace and full bath.  This is a place for solitude, just sit in the rocking chair, look out across the back field and enjoy a good cup of coffee.  From there, you move into the kitchen with tin ceilings, Corian counters, 5 burner propane stove and walk in pantry.  This is a great space to entertain or cook that large holiday meal for friends and family. Open to the kitchen is the dining room and living room with cathedral ceilings, wood stove and stunning 18-inch-wide pine flooring.  Finishing the first floor is the master bedroom.  With all the upgrades that have been completed, the home still retains its country charm. Leading upstairs is a custom open staircase that allows plenty of natural light into this space.  At the top of the stairs is a small bedroom which is a good fit for the occasional guest.  Walk across the cat walk to a large bedroom that can sleep all the noise makers in the house.  Finishing the second floor is a newly installed full bath and a room that could be finished into a walk-in closet or hobby room. From woods, fields, water and whatever else draws you to Maine, you will find it here, located on the quiet Goulds Ridge Road in Passadumkeag Maine.
