Bald eagles, whales, seals, cranes, and more dot the shoreline. Maine’s Bold Coast, with wild spruce, pine, birch, and fir, reach the rugged cliffs, pebble, and sand beach. Located only a couple of miles from the easternmost tip of the United States along the Bold Coast Scenic drive route, the A-Frame cabin is located only feet from the beach and gives spectacular views of the open ocean. Always a cool breeze, salt air, and forest quiet, this remoste shore is an out-of-the-way corner of civilization. 1500 feet of deep ocean frontage, a wooded hike, avid wildlife, and privacy entice even the most sedentary person to explore the adventures that await. With nearly a mile access to the property, bring your binoculars and view the birds, squirrels, and more. Listen to the silence. Imagine painting the ocean’s scenic view from your deck. Travel northeast and then east from 191 to Boot Cove Road and you will be at Boot Cove Preserve and Hamilton’s Preserve, both conservation lands. Hike to the ocean along these trails. Turn right onto the South Lubec Road and travel to the West Quoddy Lighthouse—the most Eastern Point in the Continental United States. The lighthouse is visited each year by folks from all continents. Trails and stunning cliffs abut the lighthouse property at Quoddy Head State Park. A bog walk hosts rare plants that will only be found here. The area is home to the easternmost town in the Continental United States. Return to the South Lubec Road to Rt 189 and turn right, on into town where the village hosts several cottage businesses, restaurants, a hardware store, grocery store, and elementary school. Lubec is an entry point for Canada. The Roosevelt International Bridge allows access from and to Campobello Island which is home of the beloved Roosevelt Cottages. Several small parks are available to gather at to chat with a friend or to have a picnic. Fogfest, 4th of July, Pirates Festival, and Canada Day are large events held each year. The Masons host summertime breakfasts weekly and the Methodist Church holds bean suppers monthly. The Lubec Library carries any book that could be wished for—if not available onsite, it can be ordered from a lending library. On Rt 191 heading South from the property you will encounter Cutler Bold Coast Trails. This is not for the faint of heart. This trail is moderate to rugged. Further on you will enter into the tiny fishing village of Cutler. The harbor is always dotted with fishing boats. Onward to East Machias and you will find Down East Salmon Federation’s wild Atlantic salmon hatchery. Also, this town is home to renowned Washington Academy which is a private high school. The next town is Machias, the County Seat; also home to the University of Maine at Machias. Several restaurants, medical facilities, and a hospital are located here.
