Runs of Atlantic alewives, salmon, and striped bass come into the river each spring. Bald eagles, osprey and heron frequent the shores and sky in and around the Kenduskeag. This large stream is home to the locally famous Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race, held each April for adventuress paddlers. The city of Bangor recognizes how important this stream is for local wildlife and aesthetics of the city and has resource protected this and other sections of the waterway. Bangor is the county seat for Penobscot County, or “where it’s happening” for the rest of northern Maine.
