When you walk into the grand foyer, you know immediately that this is not a typical 1900’s Victorian.  While the original structure is there, the inside has been remodeled with a very contemporary look.  Granite counters, tile floors, center-island with a prep-sink, stainless steel appliances and Cherrywood cabinet adorn the kitchen.  One step up and you are in the formal dining room with patio doors leading to the back lawn. A family room with gas fireplace, formal living room with wood fireplace and of course the informal foyer and first floor bath complete this level.    This circa 1900 Victorian with wrap-around Veranda was renovated and remodeled for ease of maintenance and maximum enjoyment.  The upscale appliances, tile and wood floors, Master Bedroom en suite spa-like bath and more are just a sampling of the masterfully crafted renovations.  The home sits on .98 acres with approximately 198’ on pristine Johnson’s Bay.  The Master Bedroom suite has French Doors leading to a balcony for great sunset viewing.  Banked on each side of the French Doors are large windows so when the weather is not cooperative, you can enjoy the views from the comfort of your bedroom.  A must see for the discerning home buyer.   Lubec   Located on the edge of “downtown”, it is an easy walk to the grocery store, neighborhood restaurant and other town services.  Lubec is a small fishing village with a population of around 1,300, but swells to much more in the summer time with seasonal residents and tourists alike. The town is located along the bold coast of Maine and is surrounded by 90 miles of shorefront.  It is the most easterly town in the U.S. and greets the sun first in the nation each morning.  West Quoddy Head Light House stands tall on the most easterly point in the U.S. directing Mariners safely home after a long day on the waters.  This small town offers over 4,000 acres of conservation lands open to the public.  From biking to hiking and everything in-between.  Grab your kayak and launch it in Straight Bay or Federal Harbor and explore the inner bays with the ebb and flow of the tides, run the trails at West Quoddy State Park or hike to the bold waterfront of Hamilton Cove.  If you like ATV riding, check out the Sunrise Trails just a 20 min. drive to Whiting to connect to the trails.  Something for everyone. Lubec – the way life IS!

Hikers can enjoy 10 miles of trails, three remote tent sites and spectacular views from the property's steep cliffs-part of the dramatic "Bold Coast" that extends from Cutler to Lubec. Washington County is sometimes referred to as the "Sunrise County" because it includes the eastern most point in the United States, and where many believe the sun first rises on the forty-eight contiguous states. Blueberries play a major role; nearly 85% of the world's supply of wild blueberries comes from Washington County. Lobsters accounted for over $45 million dollars of economic activity in 2014. Washington County was established June 25, 1789 in conjunction with Hancock County. Originally Washington County stretched along the eastern border of New Brunswick all the way to the disputed northern boundary with Canada. Machias was established as the shiretown and is just a half hour drive from this home. The county covers 3,258 square miles with 695 square miles of water, or 21% of the land mass. The population is located, for the most part, along the coast. The county is so large that it takes four hours to drive from one end to the other. During that drive you will enjoy the ever-changing topography. From the great rock formations, lakes and streams and wide-open expanses - some with large blueberry barrens. Washington County is a lot of things. It is the most gorgeous, has the deepest cargo port, the longest coastline including the Bold Coast, the highest tides, and produces the most lobster and clam landings. What Washington County does not have is lots of traffic lights (only three in the whole county), an interstate, a Red Lobster Restaurant, or poisonous snakes. Enjoy all that Downeast Maine has to offer for a season or a lifetime!

This 1900’s New England Farmhouse sits high above the Orange River and offers over 700’ of shorefront. The home has been updated to today’s standards and a lovely addition with gas fireplace has added. A sunroom was also added where one can sit and soak up the winter sun to help fight the winter blues. There is a small bath off the first floor bedroom. The cozy kitchen is centrally located to the dining room, living room, and master bedroom with bath on the first floor. A foyer closet accommodates the stackable washer and dryer and accesses the country porch on the front of the home. The second floor has a nice landing large enough for a small library and reading area. Two bedrooms and a full bath all expand off this central landing. The home has undergone many updates—a replacement septic system with leach field was installed in 2009, that same year a new Hot Air (propane) furnace was installed, and in 2016 the additions were added and a metal roof installed.   Outside you will find perennial gardens, paths thru the land, a screened in deck near the waterfront, a large workshop and a bunk house. The screened in deck is great for entertaining - with the roar of the river flowing by, a kitchen area for cooking and tables to enjoy your meals with friends. Great place to unwind and enjoy great friends! The workshop is about 1200 sq. feet with several bays - one for painting, one for making and one to display your crafts. There is a small 200 sq. ft. bunkhouse that can be used for guests wanting their own space at night. Great Location for Home Business. The town of Whiting is a small town of approximately 54 sq. miles of rural and coastal homes. The term you can’t get there from here seems to fit this town as the town is divided between the coastal homes along Rt. 191S and the inland and lakefront homes on and around Rt. 1 some 15 miles or so away - unless of course you go as the crow flies bushwacking thru the brush and trees between the two roads! Along with the coastal land along Holmes Bay, there are numerous lakes and streams in and around Rt. 1. Indian, Orange, Rocky and Roaring Lakes and part of Gardner Lake are located in Whiting as is Mill Pond and Mill Pond Dam. You don’t have to travel far for some good fishing! Access to Sunrise Trails, an 85-mile multi-use trail built along a former rail corridor runs from Washington Junction in Hancock to Ayers Junction in Pembroke, is just up the road next to the town office. It is ideal for snowmobiling, ATVing, walking, bicycling, cross-country skiing and horseback riding and is open year-round. Known as the Sunrise County, Washington County welcomes the first rays of sun to shine on the US each day. With tides averaging between 18-22’; the bold, salt-sprayed shoreline of Downeast Maine offers deserted beaches, quiet hiking trails, rugged cliffs and unnamed beauty. Truly, one of the last frontiers on the Eastern seaboard, one doesn’t have to go far to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. With 2 cities, 44 towns and a population of approximately 32,000, Washington County is larger than the states of Delaware and Rhode Island combined. A great place to live and play - for a season or a lifetime!

Recent updates include a new roof on the back of the home to correct inefficient flashing from the previous job, a new boiler in December of 2018, and some updated appliances.    An old woods road on the South East side of the property will take you up the hill to the top where one can imagine the view below once trees are cleared – you can see for miles over the bay. Create a mini-farm or clear the fields again for planting.  Many options with wood to cut, fields to mow and gardens to grow.  Located in the “East Side of the Port”, this home is just a short 5 miles or so to Machias, which is the county seat and the place to go for groceries, banking, doctors and more.  The old saying “you can’t get there from here  is almost true - to get to the rest of Machiasport you need to travel thru East Machias, around and across the bridge to the rest of the town.  The trip to the other end of town follows the E. Machias and Machias Rivers and is very scenic.  Machias is also home to the University of Maine at Machias, the Downeast Community Hospital, Maine Wild Blueberries processing and distribution center, Washington County Sherriff’s office, Washington County District Court, Registry of Deeds and other companies and services both large and small. If you enjoy the out of doors, a connection to the Sunrise Trails is just 4 miles down the road to East Machias.  The 87.9-mile Down East Sunrise Trail passes through the woods, marshlands, and coastal villages of southern Washington County Maine. The rail-trail follows a section of a 19th-century railroad that ran between Calais and Bangor. The branch closed after Maine Central was sold in the 1980s, and the Maine Department of Transportation acquired the rail bed in 1987. The first section of trail opened in 2009, and crews completed the 2-mile-long final section in Ellsworth in 2016. The trail is open to hiking, biking, ATV’s, horseback riding and more in the summer and to snowmobiles and cross country skiing in the winter. If you prefer to stay near the waterfront there are over 20,000 acres of preserved lands leading to such remote beaches as Hamilton Cove in Lubec, Holmes Cove and the bold ocean in Cutler and of course Quoddy Head State Park in Lubec and Cobscook Bay Campground in Edmunds – all within a 30 minute drive. Downeast Maine – a great place to live, work and play.
